The Academy for Responsible Research, Teaching, and Innovation (ARRTI) and International Affairs (INTL) are organizing a panel discussion on "Large Language Models in Academic Teaching: De- or Up-Skilling?" on 6 February 2025, 6 – 7:30 pm at Triangel, within the framework of the EPICUR SHAPE-IT project.
In this event they will analyze both the critical dimensions of the discussion and the opportunities that this new technology brings. Not only does it offer new possibilities for knowledge transfer, but it also raises fundamental questions about the roles of teachers and learners, especially in the academic world. In particular, they will explore whether LLMs are more likely to lead to deskilling - a reduction in skills - or upskilling - an increase in skills - in academic teaching, and how this should ultimately be assessed.
Participation is possible both on-site and online, register here until 4 February 2025!

Under the motto “Freedom in Transition - Opportunities and Limits for Science and Society”, the Karlsruhe science landscape provides insights into its current research topics in the EFFEKTE science series. Once a month, the topic is examined from different perspectives on a Science Tuesday.
This evening will focus on the challenges facing women in science. Sexualized violence, harassment and discrimination in the workplace are unfortunately not a thing of the past in science. Protection against this is one of the management tasks of superiors. Dr. Britta Bergfeldt, Dr. Birgid Langer, Dr. Robin von Both and Sarah Wenz from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) want to raise awareness of the issue and encourage reflection on what characterizes good leadership and how people in leadership positions can contribute to a pleasant working environment. Afterwards, female scientists from the USA, Great Britain, India, Turkey and Germany will have their say. In English, they will discuss structural hurdles, personal experiences and best practice examples for promoting equality.
The event starts at 19:30 at @Triangel at Kronenplatz. Admission is free.
